Information about Dussehra / Vijaya Dashmi Puja

Dussehra is one of the most important Hindu Festival celebrated in various forms all over India. This festival is believed to remove the bad fate from people and marks the victory of goodness over evil. It is celebrated on the 10th day of Ashwin month of Hindu Calendar which generally falls in the months of September / October. This year, Dussehra Festival is going to celebrate on Tuesday, 8th of October 2019.

Dussehra is also known as Vijayadashmi, Vijaya means "Victory" and Dashmi means "10th day". The meaning referred to Lord Ram's victory over the Ten headed Demon Ravana. The day also marks the victory of Goddess Durga over the Demon Mahishashur. The festival is celebrated as the day when Lord Ram killed the Demon Ravana. Demon Ravana had kidnapped the Lord Ram's beloved wife Sita and held her captive in his kingdom of Lanka. Lord Rama was the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu (Supreme God in Hinduism). Lord Rama is also known as "Purushottam" means supreme Purush (personality). Lord Rama is the perfect Avatar of Lord Vishnu and has been described as the embodiment of truth, morality, an ideal son, an ideal husband and overall an ideal King. Lord Rama is Prayed upon as the :

" One who removes all types of adversity and agony of Jiva (living beings); who bestows all types of favour, honor and wealth; By looking at whom, the world feel very pleased; to that Shri Rama, I bow again and again "

Performing a Puja dedicated to Lord Rama, Lord Hanuman and Goddess Durga ji on the occasion of Dussehra is supposed to bring Protection from all kind of adversaries and evil energies, as well as Peace, Progress and overall Prosperity in all the areas of life by the blessings of Lord Rama, Goddess Durga and Lord Hanuman. It is also a widely practiced custom that all kinds of machines and weapons including Vehicles are worshipped on this day of Dussehra to get their best performance for the coming year. Hence, a Vahan Durghatna Nashak Yantra will also be energized during the puja and sent along with the prasadam.
