Information about Lord Shiva's Archana in Shravan Purushottam Maas with Bilva Patras
Hindu calendar follows the cycles of the Moon, and therefore there are around 29.5 days in a month. While there are 30 or 31 days in a Solar month. Hence, there is a difference of 11 days every year in both these calendars (Lunar and Solar) and this difference comes to 29 or 30 days in every 3 years, and becomes a whole month. To keep the lunar and solar calendars aligned, an extra month is added every three years. This extra month is known as Purushottam Maas / Adhik Maas or Mal Maas. In 2023, the Purushottam month is starting from Tuesday, 18th of July and ends on Wednesday, 16th of August, which falls in the month of Shravan. Therefore it is also called Shravan Purushottam Maas or Shravan Adhik Maas this year. Purushottam Month is considered as a Holy month, and the benefits of this month are innumerable.
Lord Shiva is the 3rd deity in the Hindu trilogy, along with Lord Brahma and Vishnu. He is the destroyer of all evil, and the one who bestows the greatest blessings when pleased. The month of Shravan is dedicated to Lord Shiva and performing any Pooja and Homa during this month is considered very auspicious and beneficial. By performing Puja Archana during Shrawan Purushottam Maas, a person gets good health, wealth and happiness. He is protected from all kinds of Evil effects and Enemies.
The most auspicious way of worshipping Lord Shiva is by performing Archana of Bilva leaves, of the Tree known as Bilva Tree. This is a sacred Tree and is very dear to Lord Shiva. A confluence of three leaves of Bilva Tree is called Bilva Dal which is said to be a representation of Lord Shiva's weapon Trident (Trishul).
The Bilva Tree has been praised and mentioned in various Vedic Texts to mention a few as :
1. In chapter 1.1.21 of Shiva Purana, Sage Romaharshana explains to other sages of Naimishaaranya as follows :
A Bilva fruit is supposed to be an embodiment and manifest form of Lord Shiva himself. It is believed that all the places of pilgrimage dwell at the base of the Bilva Tree.
2. In the well-known Bilva Ashtakam, a lot has been emphasized about offering even a single leaf of Bilva to Lord Shiva especially during the Shravan month.
3. The Shree Suktam dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi ji mentioned as follows :
"Aadityavarne Tapasodhijaato Vanaspatistava Vrukshotha Bilvaha Tasya Falaani Tapasaa Nudantu Mayanta Raayashcha Baahya Alakshmihi"
Oh Goddess Lakshmi, you are as bright as the Sun, the sacred Tree of Bilva was brought forth by your dedicated tapasya. May this Tree remove my internal and external misfortunes and poverty.
4. In Mahalakshmi Ashtotra Shatnama Stotram, Goddess Lakshmi ji has been named as Bilva Nilayam which means the one who resides in the Bilva Tree.

2. 21000 Bilva Patras Archana ( 700 Bilva Patras everyday ) starting from 1st day of Shravan Purushottam month till the last day of Shravan Purushottam month; followed by Homam with Honey, Ghee, Sugar, Til, Oats ( Jow ), Ashtagandh, Sandalwood powder, Navgrah Samidha and then Lord Shiva's Aarti, Prasad to Brahmins on the final day
3. 51000 Bilva Patras Archana ( 1700 Bilva Patras everyday ) starting from 1st day of Shravan Purushottam month till the last day of Shravan Purushottam month; followed by Homam with Honey, Ghee, Sugar, Til, Oats ( Jow ), Ashtagandh, Sandalwood powder, Navgrah Samidha and then Lord Shiva's Aarti, Prasad to Brahmins on the final day
4. 1,25,000 Bilva Patras Archana ( 4175 Bilva Patras everyday ) starting from 1st day of Shravan Purushottam month till the last day of Shravan Purushottam month; followed by Homam with Honey, Ghee, Sugar, Til, Oats ( Jow ), Ashtagandh, Sandalwood powder, Navgrah Samidha and then Lord Shiva's Aarti, Prasad to Brahmins on the final day
Bilva Leaves Archana Procedure on the Last day of Shravan Adhik month
Swasti Vachan, Shanti Path, Sankalp, Ganesh Sthapan, Lakshmi Sthapan, Kalash Sthapan, Lord Shiva Sthapan, Navgrah Sthapan, Brahma Sthapan, Agni Sthapan, Invocation of all Gods & Goddesses, Navgrah Mantra Japa (1 mala for each planet), Lord Shiva's Abhishek with Bilva Patras (offered as Archan), Recitation of Rudra Ashtakam for 108 times, Homam with Honey, Ghee, Sugar, Til, Oats ( Jow ), Ashtagandh, Sandalwood powder, Navgrah Samidha and then Lord Shiva's Aarti, Prasad to Brahmins.

1. Donate the Prasadam : In this option, the Puja Prasadam will be Donated to a Brahmin at our end here itself. You can virtually see the Prasadam in the Video and offer your prayers to it. The Shipping Charges will Not be applied for this Puja.

- If you opt for not receiving the prasadam, we will provide you a video recording of around 15-20 minutes instead of regular 12-13 minutes video without any extra charges to you. This video will have images of each item of Prasadam so that you can pray in front of them which will ensure that you get the same benefits that you would have got by physically receiving the prasadam.
- Thereafter, the prasadam will be given to the brahmin who have taken sankalp on your part so that the prasadam is virtually delivered to you. He will then take care of each and every item of the prasadam in a ritualistic way as mentioned in Vedic Texts, so that in fact you will get even better results of the puja as compared to prasadam being physically delivered to you wherein at times you cannot take proper care of it.
