Goddess Pratiyangira is a Hindu Goddess associated with Adi Para Shakti and is the consort of Lord Sharabha ( an incarnation of Lord Shiva ). She is also known as Narasimhi or Narasimhika being associated with the incarnation of Lord Narsimha who killed the Demon King Hiranyakashyapu. Goddess Pratiyangira is depicted having a Lion's face and a female human body and she have the combined powers of Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
As per a Legend described in Markandeya Purana and Shiva Purana, when Lord Narsimha killed the Demon King Hiranyakashyapu by tearing his body with his nails, he also drank the Blood of Hiranyakashyapu due to which he went into a state of extreme rage which was uncontrollable and was sure to cause great harm to the world. Therefore, Lord Shiva took the form of Sharabha but instead of getting pacified, Lord Narsimha also created another form known as Gandaberunda to fight with Sharabha and the fight between two continued for a Long time without any result simultaneous destruction in the world due to their fight. To stop this fight, Goddess Parvati invoked Devi Pratiyangira giving her combined powers of Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva and Shakti who was thereafter able to stop the fight by a mere roar of hers.
The word Prati means Reverse and Angiras means someone who is attacking. Hence, the Goddess Pratiyangira is considered as the most powerful force to reverse any Black Magic attacks and other evil forces. It is said that the Protection provided by Devi Pratiyangira cannot be over-powered by even Gods themselves and when invoked for getting Success and invincibility, she is considered to provide a definite Victory to her worshipper. It is said that she is the Ruling Deity of Atharva Veda, the ancient vedic scripture which deals with various kinds of spells and their cure.
